Discovery pitfalls
The traps that derail Product Discovery — and how Synloom is built to guard against each one.
Most failed discovery does not fail from lack of effort — it fails from predictable traps. Here are the common ones and the specific Synloom feature that pushes back on each.
The interview that only heard what it wanted to hear
Sam, PM validating a pet feature
The situation. Sam is convinced a new automation feature is the answer and has run three user interviews that seem to confirm it. The plan is nearly locked.
What they do
- 1Before committing, Sam runs the Cognitive Bias agent over the discovery notes.
- 2It flags confirmation bias: the interview questions were leading, and disconfirming comments were dropped from the summary.
- 3Sam re-runs synthesis on the raw evidence and finds the automation demand is thinner than it looked.
The result. Sam catches the bias before a quarter of engineering goes into it. The trap was invisible from the inside — a second, skeptical pass is what caught it.
You don’t avoid these traps by being smarter — everyone falls into them. You avoid them with a system that pushes back by default. That’s what these features are for.
